In this tutorial I will be teaching you how to make an icy text effect style, like the text below:

To start out create a new document. Now using the text tool write out whatever you would like to freeze. I used the font “Eurose†But you can use whatever tickles you fancy. By the way don’t you love that phrase?

Okay so Now that we have our text laid out lets Rasterize our text. Incase you don’t know how to do that go to Layer> Rasterize> Type. Then Merge your text into the background layer (or your first layer). If you don’t know how to do this just hit Ctrl-E. Now go to Image> Rotate Canvas> Rotate 90 CW. You should have something like this:

Okay so now what I want you to do is invert your whole document. So go to Image> Adjustments> Invert.

Now go to Filter > Pixelate > Crystallize. Set it on about 3-4 somewhere around there.

Now go to Filter > Stylize > Wind. Make sure it set on wind and coming from the right.

Now press Ctrl-U this should bring up the Hue/Saturation menu. Now plug in these settings:

Now using the color picker get a blue color from your icicles on your text. Now take out you brush tool on 0 hardness and set on 6 px. Now on a new layer Brush on your text to give it a frozen feeling. Just click around until you have something like this:

Congratulations you have learn how to make Icy text! Now you can freeze any text you want.
Happy Photoshoping!!!

In the hue/saturation menu, you can only go up to 180, so I find these instructions a little useless. I have Photoshop CS3, btw.
