Animated Neon Sign

In this tutorial I will be teaching you how to create a neon logo like this:

Create a new document and make the background black. To start out write out in text whatever you want you neon sign to say. I used the Font Eurose.

Now Ctrl – click your text layer. Then make your text layer invisible, by clicking the eye button in your layers palette. Now while you still have you selection going make a new layer. Then go to Edit> Stroke. Stroke: 3 Color: OfC9FF. You should have something like this now:

Okay so now go to blending options and apply these settings in the Outer Glow area:

Now you should have something like this:

So now we want to add a bright spot to give it more of a neon feel. So Ctrl – Click your Original text layer (the one we hid by pushing the eye button). Then create a new layer. Go Edit> Stroke> and Stroke with 1 px WHITE.
You should have something like this now:

Now duplicate both of your layers by dragging them over the new layer button. Then select your duplicated layers and hit Ctrl – E. This should merge them together. Now go to Hue/Saturation and insert these settings:

Then go to your blending options and insert these settings for your Outer glow area:

Now you should have something like this:

Okay so now we want to animate our neon sign. So start by opening your animation window. Then on the first layer hide the black merged layer (the layer that should be on top). Then make a new slide. Hide the blue neon sign layers (they unmerged 3 px and 1px stroke layers), and unhide the black merged layer. Set the timing on both of them to 5 seconds.
Now you should have something like this:

Congratulations! You have finished my tut on how to create a neon sign! Great job. I hope you enjoyed my tut.

nice tutorial but maybe you should mention the fact that it has to be done in adobe image ready as i dont think newbie photoshoppers will catch on.

A few constructive thoughts:
1. Say “open image ready” for us noobs please. Don’t forget… this is a tutorial.. readers do not have your background/knowledge prior to trying this.
2. Spell Check, I could have been confused by you a couple times.

Also, this does work guys, just could use clarification. I started using photoshop yesterday and am a total noob, still able to use this and make it work. Thank you!

Hey I’ve comed to the animation, and I think i got it right, when i find out how to turn on the more detailed timeline. But how to save this picture/animation - so I will be able to see the animation? ….

Everyone, this can be done in Photoshop and does not need Image Ready, as long as you are using CS2 or higher, when animation was implemented. But I agree, this tutorial could use some cleaning up.
